UPDATE: Holland Patent Man Killed in Trenton Crash on Saturday Night
The Oneida County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) is identifying 29-year-old Dakota Safin of Holland Patent as the victim in a collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck at the intersection of Trenton Road and John Street in Trenton.
When they arrived at the scene deputies say, "Safin had sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash." They performed CPR on Safin until medical personnel arrived but could not revive him. Safin was pronounced dead at the scene.
In addition to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, the Holland Patent Fire Department, Barneveld Fire Department, and Kunkel Ambulance all assisted at the scene.
Safin was driving a 2002 Honda motorcycle south on Trenton Road. In a written release the OCSO says that a witness told investigators that Safin was travelling "at a high rate of speed." At the same time 57-year-old Mary Fanelli of Barneveld was driving a 2020 Ford F-150 pickup north "and was turning left onto John Street when the two collided."
There were two passengers in Fanelli's vehicle. The passengers were identified as 58-year-old John Fanelli of Barneveld and a 6-year-old. Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol says no one in Fanelli's vehicle was hurt in the crash.
The OCSO says that the results of the preliminary investigation by deputies indicate that cell phone use and intoxication were not factors in the crash. However, speed does appear to be a contributing factor.
The crash is still under reconstruction and investigation.
No tickets have been issued.
Witnesses, drivers with dashcam footage who were in the area, and anyone with information that may be helpful to the investigation is asked to call the Oneida County Sheriff's Office at: (315) 765.2737.
