Dog Who Ate Her Leg Off Is Home And Cancer Free
Zoe has a new home, and she's doing great after her rescue and surgery. Isn't she beautiful?
The Daily Star reports that Zoe has been adopted by her foster caretaker, who was highly recommended by Dr. Christine Schneider of the Leatherstocking Veterinary Group, who assisted with Zoe’s rescue last month.
Zoe was taken to Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine Animal Hospital and ultimately had surgery to remove a mass on her shoulder and amputate her leg. She is no longer anemic, no longer described as having a heart murmur, and cancer-free.
Zoe, a 9-year-old German Shepherd, was rescued on November 14, 2019, from a residence in Exeter with a missing leg that looked like it was "blown off" with no food, no water or adequate shelter. The good samaritan who saw Zoe called the Susquehanna SPCA. After an evaluation by the veterinary team, they concluded that she ate her leg off.
NYS Police arrested Carl K. Pritchard, age 59 of Exeter and charged with Agriculture and Markets Law Agriculture and Markets Law overdriving, torturing and injuring animals; failure to provide proper sustenance (misdemeanor) and failure to provide appropriate shelter for dogs left outdoors (violation). He is scheduled to appear in Exeter town court Dec. 4.
