New York Bars Can Stay Open Later During the 2026 FIFA World Cup
Soccer fans in New York will have more time to enjoy the games.
Governor Kathy Hochul signed a new law that lets bars and restaurants serve drinks until 4 a.m. during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The temporary change began June 11, and ends July 20, 2026.
Why New York Is Extending Bar Hours
The FIFA World Cup is expected to bring more than a million visitors to the region, with matches taking place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, just outside New York City.
State leaders say the longer hours will help bars and restaurants serve more customers and take part in the excitement.

The law automatically expires on July 21, 2026.
What It Means for Utica and Rome
While Central New York won't host any World Cup matches, local businesses could still benefit from the global event.
Sports bars, restaurants, breweries, and taverns throughout Utica, Rome, New Hartford, and the Mohawk Valley may choose to host late-night watch parties, especially for international matches that air at unusual hours due to different time zones.
More World Cup Events Planned Across New York
The state is also making it easier for communities to host special World Cup events.
Earlier this year, the State Liquor Authority introduced a special World Cup One-Day Permit that allows organizers to host off-site watch parties, fan festivals and expanded outdoor events.
