Flooding allowed a giant fish to find a new home in a New York Mills backyard.

Bernie Vanderwood has seen his share of flooding in New York Mills, but the flooding during Halloween brought an unexpected guest to his backyard - a giant carp.

Bernie's house is close to the Sauquoit Creek, but he speculates that the carp likely came from a pond somewhere, since carp don't frequent the creek.

So what happened to the carp?

Bernie says he planned to put it in a bucket, but a neighbor beat him to it. Before the carp was liberated, its rescuer snapped a photo.

Swim free, Mr. Carp. (Or is that Mrs. Carp?) I guess this is as close as Central New York gets to Jaws.
