Additional Information

The Rural Law Initiative is hosting their Too Much Farm Debt educational program on October 1st at thINCubator on Broad Street in Utica. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the free seminar runs from 10 to noon. The program is designed to support family farmers and fishermen in restructuring their finances to avoid liquidation and foreclosure. Registration begins at 9:30 for the free seminar.

Farm businesses are fundamental to New York's economy and the agricultural food and product diversity that the state is renowned for. Yet, farms across New York are struggling to stay in business. Chapter 12 is designed to support "family farmers" and "family fishermen" in restructuring their finances to avoid liquidation or foreclosure. This program is meant to help farmers, and the lawyers that serve the, understand the rights and protections afforded under Chapter 12 of the United States Backruptcy Code.

We are fortunate to have a Federal Bankrupcy Judge presennt this program, along with a standing Chapter 12 and 13 Trustee, a Chapter 12 debtor's attorney, and a creditor's attorney. The panel will discuss a hypothetical Chapter 12 case and highlight certain aspects from pre-filling planning through discharge.

2 CLE credits are available for attorneys through this event. Everyone is welcome. Register at albanylaw.edu/farmdebt.
